INSPIRING LECTURE

THE FUTURE OF SMART CITIES

All technologies come together in the promise of tomorrow: smart cities. Cities and countries become ‘systems of systems’. Are you ready?

A smart government as a prerequisite for progress. Smart government is coming. With smart cities that adapt to the needs of their citizens and future-proof energy systems. A government that gives citizens of the future the space for decision making. A government that uses and stimulates technology, that can protect and release, even in the new world. Shall we work at it together? This lecture can be combined with ‘Organisation of the future’. It can also be customised on request.

TOPICS THAT WILL BE COVERED

CROWDSOURCING

Crowdsourcing, a distributed online production and problem-solving model, has been gaining popularity as a public participation tool for planning and governance, but also as a way to process large volumes of data or build common resources for the improvement of government functions. Public participation is a natural extension of the democratic process in which citizens are actively engaged in governing themselves.

CYBERSECURITY

The fast pace of urbanisation has led to cities implementing ‘smart city’ programs. Often blithely unsecured, these globally connected economic, political and social sub-systems have increased the vulnerability of a city’s security. As a result, we need to develop innovative technologies and solutions to minimise risk. Examples are increased surveillance, intelligent threat detection, simulation modelling and crime protection, biometrics and proactive antivirus protection.

ENERGY REVOLUTION

The convergence between digital technology and the world of energy, or Energy 3.0, will pave the way for a new ecosystem of services that will enable reduced energy consumption and lead to better quality of life within cities. The energy sector will see more and more citizens generating their own sustainable energy, adapting it to their personal requirements and sharing the surplus with others.

CITIZEN OF THE FUTURE

The next years of civic governance require increased citizen participation, innovation projects and hackathons that generate new ideas and new opportunities to increase government responsiveness and efficiency. With involvement from the citizen of the future, we can live in neighbourhoods that improve our health and build more resilient communities, more creative societies and economies that are adapted to 21st century work.

SMART GOVERNMENT

The concept of smart government depends on communication networks and consolidated information systems. Smart government focuses on efficiency, transparency, sustainability and security. It is data driven, citizen-centric and performance focused. It makes use of innovative technology, business models and policies to address service, financial and environmental challenges.

SMART CITIES

A smart city interacts with its citizens to increase quality of life. It is driven by emerging technologies like machine learning, data analytics, sensor technology and the IoT that help optimise water usage, emergency response, electricity usage, traffic flow and public transportation. A smart city is data-driven, allowing services and systems to respond in real time.

ORGANISATION OF THE FUTURE

The company of the future is hyper connected. It closely monitors new developments and collaborates with startups, scientists and universities. It uses smart algorithms to analyse the world and employs a flexible workforce capable of rapidly developing new products, services or processes and offering support on complex issues. The company of the future requires accessible leaders who inspire, have new visions and are prepared to veer off the beaten track.

CUSTOMIZED KEYNOTE

We also offer customised keynotes. Existing lectures can be adjusted to your requirements, or we can develop a new keynote that is specifically tailored to what you need.
